Choose one of these eight activities for your group. Adjust the materials and adult help to the children involved; the ideas are not age certifications or tested classroom outcomes.
Styled project images are AI-generated concepts, not photographs of projects we completed. These are proposed ways to make or arrange the ideas; no physical project testing is claimed. Printable previews show the actual downloadable files.
1. Wash and observe a whole pumpkin
Gather: whole pumpkin, cloth, shallow water tray.
- Help wipe the pumpkin, then describe its color, stem and ridges. Keep it on the tray and have an adult move heavy pumpkins.
2. Make a pumpkin texture rubbing
Gather: paper, crayon, small stable pumpkin.
- An adult holds paper against one section while the child rubs gently with the crayon’s side. Compare the pattern with the ridges.
3. Arrange a sticker face
Gather: whole pumpkin, large age-appropriate stickers.
- Let the child choose eye and mouth positions before sticking. Offer large pieces and avoid small loose craft parts when unsuitable.
4. Draw a pumpkin pattern
Gather: pumpkin, a drawing material suitable for the surface and age.
- Test the material as its label directs, then draw a repeated line or simple shape. Stop with one section if that suits the child’s attention.
5. Count drawn pumpkins
Gather: paper, marker, counters suitable for the group if used.
- Draw several pumpkins and point to each while counting. No seeds or small counters are required; pointing works too.
6. Tear a paper pumpkin collage
Gather: large paper pieces, backing paper, age-appropriate glue.
- Let the child tear or choose paper pieces and arrange them inside a drawn pumpkin outline. Help apply glue according to its label.
7. Observe the inside with an adult
Gather: pumpkin, tray, adult cutting tools kept separately.
- An adult opens the pumpkin away from the children and places it on a stable tray. Invite observation and descriptive words; this is not a tasting activity.
8. Tell a pumpkin growing story
Gather: paper, crayons, adult-drawn seed/plant/flower/fruit sketches.
- Lay out the pictures and discuss their order. Use the sequence as a conversation prompt, not evidence from a growth experiment.
For children, choose materials intended for the child’s age and follow product labels. Adults handle cutting and review small pieces before use.
